Ahead of Women's Golf Day on 4th June, we caught up with Zoë North, our new PGA Professional. Zoë fully qualified in 2015 after completing the PGA foundation degree and is now a mentor for the PGA where she helps students through their 3 years of training with support and guidance.

Zoe fully qualified in 2015 after completing the PGA foundation degree and is now a mentor for the PGA where she helps students through their 3 years of training with support and guidance.

Zoë prides herself on making her group sessions fun, relaxed and informative, the perfect combination when coaching her loyal ladies client base and energetic juniors. This group of clients really are Zoë’s passion, and particularly specialises in getting as many juniors and ladies into golf as possible.

For over 10 years Zoë has helped juniors starting back at her first club in Leicestershire supporting Summer camps, which eventually turned into regular junior classes when she turned pro. She moved to Lutterworth Golf Club in 2014 where she built up the junior section from 10 to 50+ which included over 25 girls.

In 2017 Zoë became part of the Leicestershire & Rutland all female coaching team for the county girls and coached a number of girls who have continued to play golf and who have obtained handicaps – what a great achievement! Recently Zoë has been coaching events for the Ladies European tour for a couple of years and this year she is part of the all-female coaching team at the Ladies British Open in August 2019 at Woburn Golf Club.

What’s your typical day at The Belfry?

My typical day at The Belfry consists of coaching individual lessons, ladies classes and some practice.

What inspired you to get into golf?

My dad inspired me to get into golf, he is a good golfer and would always take me and my sister along to walk the course whilst he played. Then one day he asked if we wanted to hit a shot and I loved it. He would show me the likes of Annika Sörenstam and I wanted to be as good as her.

What has been your biggest achievement/highlight?

My biggest achievement/ highlight will be happening this year. I have been selected to coach in the all-female team at the Women's British open at Woburn. It is so amazing to start to give back to the sport as I want to get as many ladies & girls into the sport as possible.

What are your specialist areas?

I specialise in Ladies & Girls Golf. I connect well with the ladies and girls as I have been in their shoes from the beginning of the sport. As my first handicap was 36, so I have been through all the experiences a beginner does. So I can relate a lot and tell them my experiences as well.

What is your top tip for getting into golf?

My top tip for getting into golf is to set yourself small realistic goals, don't get overwhelmed with how much there is to learn or frustrated if your progress isn't as fast as you want it to be.

What is the best advice you have had, or given to someone else?

The best advice I have ever been given is by my dad - "Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard".

What do you enjoy other than golf?

Apart from spending time with my family and my new little niece, I am an Ice Hockey fan so during the winter months I spend most weekends following my team Coventry Blaze.
