With a degree in Tourism Management and having spent many years in hospitality, we caught up with Charlotte Carrier, Account Director - MICE, to find out what inspired her to get in to the industry and what it takes to provide a first-class customer experience.

What is your Job title?

My job title is Account Director - MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events).

What do you like most about working at The Belfry?

I love promoting and selling a world-famous brand, and working alongside people who are passionate about working at The Belfry. The Belfry has attained a number of prestigious accolades including England’s Leading Conference Hotel which makes me proud. I love working with a variety of industries and ensuring there is a great cultural fit for The Belfry and the client - that’s when special relationships are formed.

What’s your typical day?

Asides from a hectic morning trying to get the children ready, a typical day at The Belfry would include seeing with my fantastic clients in the London region, meeting new clients to build long-lasting relationships, communicating with the Events Team and researching new business development opportunities.

Where have you previously worked and what is your background?

After gaining a degree in Tourism Management I started my career in the airline industry working for Virgin Atlantic. I then worked in Sales at the Celtic Manor Hotel & Resort, followed by The Old Course Hotel & Spa at St Andrews which I left to join The Belfry. I am originally from the Midlands, so it’s great to be working at my local, world famous hotel and golf resort!

What inspired you to get into the industry?

I have always loved travelling and working in the hospitality industry which I have done since my teenage years. It is a source of fascination to me and has always been very exciting – and that excitement comes from the passion that everyone working in the industry has. There are so many experts in a variety of different areas, but all work together to give clients and guests a seamless itinerary and enjoyable experience. Completing my academic qualifications covering the conference industry was of huge benefit to me before starting my career and gave me an invaluable insight into the industry – I always knew that this was what I wanted to do.

What has been the highlight of your career to date?

Meeting Sir Richard Branson at Virgin Atlantic was a big highlight and inspiration for me. He is a really lovely person who is committed to his staff and dedicated his time to meeting each and everyone of them.

Do you have a favourite quote or motto?

“My family brought me up to always look for the best in other people. I love people, I love spending time with people, I love learning from people.”

What is the best advice you have been given or would give?

Be kind, dream big, always be yourself, work hard and you can excel. When you have the opportunity to use your voice, make it heard.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love going on family holidays and enjoying some down time. I particularly enjoy the Devon and Cornish coasts and skiing holidays with the family. Having quality time with friends & family is so important to me and I’m very lucky to have some loyal friends to share my spare time with – there really is nothing better.
