The Belfry Hotel & Resort, renowned for its world-class golf courses, will play host to the ISPS HANDA UK Championship, the conclusion of the European Tour’s ‘UK Swing’, from 27th until 30th August 2020.

While The Belfry is no stranger to hosting high-profile golfing events, the 2020 ISPS HANDA UK Championship will be the first event of this nature held at the resort since the British Masters in 2008, firmly placing The Belfry back on the tour agenda.

James Macbeth Stewart, Resort Director at The Belfry, said: “The Belfry is very proud to be hosting the ISPS HANDA UK Championship, which will take place on our award-winning Brabazon course. The Brabazon is world-class and boasts a rich golfing history, having previously hosted a number of significant golf events including The Ryder Cup four times – more than any other venue in the world – and 16 European Tour events, producing some of the most dramatic moments in the history of golf.

“The ISPS HANDA UK Championship forms part of the European Tour’s #GolfForGood initiative which aims to give back by supporting the communities where the European Tour plays, rewarding true heroes, such as front line workers, while also promoting the health benefits of golf, donating to local charities and supporting local businesses. We are delighted that our local community will benefit from this fantastic initiative.”

The tournament will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and will see the best players in the game back on The Belfry’s most iconic course, including former World Number One and winner of the 2007 British Masters held at The Belfry, Lee Westwood; The Belfry brand ambassador and four-time European Tour winner, Matt Wallace; World Number 28 Bernd Wiesberger; and Major Champions Danny Willett and Martin Kaymer.

The European Tour is recognising everyday heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic with their new #GolfForGood initiative by offering unforgettable experiences and prizes throughout the UK Swing. During the events, including the ISPS HANDA UK Championship at The Belfry, the European Tour will invite fans to nominate everyday heroes who have had a positive impact on their community in recent months. To nominate someone during the UK Swing, fans can visit et.golf/nominate-a-hero.

The resort will be closed to the general public from 24th until 30th August to host the one-off tournament behind closed doors. The ISPS HANDA UK Championship will have exclusive use of The Belfry Hotel & Resort with the safety and wellbeing of all players, guests and staff being top priority.
